JHAAA will observe the “Dhaka University Mourning Day” on Sunday 20 October 2019

Jagannath Hall Alumni Association Australia (JHAAA) will observe the “Dhaka University Mourning Day” on Sunday 20 October 2019 to solemnly remember the tragic incident at Jagannath Hall on the night of October 15, 1985.

15 October 1985 is a tragic day in the history of Dhaka University, as on that night the roof of the Jagannath Hall TV room (former Assembly House) collapsed that killed 39 students, guests and employees of the University and seriously injured 300 others.

To mark the day, there will be a presentation and discussion session to pay respect to the victims, followed by a short cultural session of devotional songs and recitations. A light dinner will be served at conclusion of the program.

Where: Reg Byrne Community Centre, Cnr of Fyall Avenue and Darcy Road, Wentworthville NSW 2145

When: Sunday 20 October 2019  at 5:00pm-8:00pm

As part of the Mourning Day, we request our members and sympathizers to voluntarily donate blood through the Australian Red Cross Blood Service’s donor centers marking the blood donation group “15 October”. Nevertheless members and sympathizers may donate other time of the year as well at their convenience and register their donations under this group.
We profusely request you join us with your family and share your thoughts, memories and pay your respects to the unfortunate people who were involved in the tragic incident.
